IA Part Two Homework

1. How can my learning serve my community?
My learning can serve my community. When I teach someone what I have learned this will impact them positively. My knowledge on the Design Cycle was helpful to the 7th graders. They did not know what the Design Cycle was and I showed them what it was. This helped them know more. This was a positive impact that I made and it served my community.

2. How can your future projects become better?
My future projects can become better if I manage my time more efficiently. Managing my time more will give me enough time to add details to my project. This will also help me finish my project in time and will prevent me from being in a rush. My future projects could also become better if I put more creativity in them. This will help my project be more interesting. In this project I was not very creative.

3. What have you learned about yourself and what you will continue to do or not do and why?
I have learned that when I create a plan that manages my time I can follow it. I will continue to create plans to manage my time. Managing my time will make me waste less time and finish on time. I will start to take every step of my projects seriously. This means doing all the work correctly in every step.

4. How do you feel about your final product? What would you rate yourself on the Rubric scale of 1-6 for each part of the Assessment Criterion?
I feel proud in my final product but I believe that I can do better. I give myself a a 4 for my investigation because I did not investigate on good sources I could use to do my product. I give myself a 5 for plan because I planned my time and my product. I give myself a 2 for design because I did not do three designs I just started on my product. I give myself a 5 for create because I was on task while doing my product. I give my self a 5 for evaluate because the 7th graders got a 100 for my survey.  I give myself a 6 for attitudes in technology because I helped people, I was on task, and because I tried my best on my project.

5. What would you do differently in regards to your planning and execution of your plan?
I will plan all my work. I will plan my time so that I can do my work in time and right. During my execution I will work efficiently and try to avoid distractions. By doing this I will do my work faster and more correctly. I will also avoid to do things at the last minute by doing this. I will follow my plan so that during the execution of my plan I will do good. During the execution of my plan I will ask questions when I am confused.

Results

Today 3 7th graders came into the classroom to learn about the Design Cycle. We could not get 6th graders. The 7th graders said that they did not know what the Design Cycle was. I started to show my presentation to the 7th grader and then i had him answer the questions. He answered all the questions correctly. After some time Addie said that there was a big variable that could affect the results. Since there was only 3 7th graders after the second person they went to be teach they already knew what the Design Cycle was.
I give myself a 5 on my attitudes in technology

Reflection

I am doing good so far. I am done with my product and my survey. I just need to teach the 6th graders. I am doing good at managing my time. I think my product is good because it has basic information. I think I applied my Design Brief because my product is simple, clear, and to the point. I did not add audio or pictures but I think this is okay because it just makes my presentation less distracting and more to the point.

I give myself a 6 on my attitudes in technology because even though today was a disorganized day since the 6th graders were not here and we had to share the 7th graders. I still kept my cool and got the 7th graders to take my quiz.

6th Grade Survey

MYP Design Cycle 6th Graders Survey
  1. How many steps are in the MYP Design Cycle? 4
  2. In what step do you plan a solution/product?  plan
  3. What is the second step of the Design Cycle? investigate
  4. In what step do you evaluate the problem/solution?evaluate
  5. What is the third step of the Design Cycle? create
I am planning to show the 6th graders the slide rocket presentation that I have made and then giving them this survey. The 6th graders would have learned what the Design Cycle is if they answer at least 4 out of 5 questions correctly.

Where I am at

Right now I am checking on my product. I am putting the final effects. I plan to get started on the survey I will be giving to the 6th graders.

Design

http://portal.sliderocket.com/BAEPJ/Copy-of-DESIGN-CYCLE
I have finished my product. I used sliderocket. The product came out like a power point. I added the information that was neccesary. I am finished. I did not like this design. I will be adding more things next time to  make it better.
I give myself a 6 on my attitudes in technology because today I helped people and I was on task and I finished my design.

Investigation Reflection

I give myself a 5-6 because I believe that I critically described the problem. The problem of this investigation is to teach the Desing Cycle to 6th graders. I also investigated the problem and the tools. Out of the many choices I had I showed to create a video. I chose to compare the programs slide rocket and animoto. I went on sliderocket and animoto and compared them to each other to determind which program would help me accomplish my goal of teaching the 6th graders the Design Cycle. I compared the two by comparing them against each other in the following categories simplicity, music, graphics, and words. I also give myself a 5-6 because I clearly explained why I gave the scores in music, simplicity, graphics, and words.

SLIDEROCKET

SLIDEROCKET
I gave sliderocket a 4 in simplicity. This is because the tools are very easy to find. They are seperated into different slots. There are many tools to choose from. At first I thought this was going to be like power point. Turns out it is more complex than power point but this may be because slide rocket is more than power point.
I gave it a 4 also because there are so many tools. This is something good because with a lot of tools you can do a lot. The tools are organized. You go in and you choose what you want to do.  You can preview your work. You can also Edit share or export you work. Once you choose one of these sections you go to other categories were you have more tools. If you press edit you can go to your actual presentation and edit it. In here you have more tools. You can add text, videos, pictures, charts shapes and many more tools.
I gave slide rocket a 2 for music. I am not sure yet if i can upload my own music. I would like to add music to give it an edge and not make it boring. If I make it boring they (6th graders) would not be interested in the Design Cycle and they won't learn anything. Although at the same time I do not want the music to be a distraction.

I think I could add audio. I am still not sure what kind of audio. I think this could be helpful. I wonder if I could add my voice inside to the presentation. That would be cool. Maybe I can. I will need to check. This is something that I like about the program slide rocket. This is why I gave slide rocket a 2 for music.

I gave slide rocket a 5 in graphics. This is because the graphics look very good in the tour. I am still not sure if i could up load pictures from the internet. I hope I can upload pictures from the internet. From the internet I could add graphs and diagrams. This will help them understand the Design Cycle better By adding this they can visualize the Design cycle better.

Slide rocket has a a series of pictures. I will need to find the pictures that are accurate to the presentation. Hopefully there are some that will fit. I could add some graphics like diagrams or graphs. This could probably help the 6th graders understand the Design Cycle better.

I gave slide rocket a 5 for words. This is because the words come out clearly. I think it will be easy to add words. The words look very clear. With this program i could add as many information as I want. I could add many words and it will not look weird. I think that having a lot of words that describe what the Design Cycle is will help get my point out better.

ANIMOTO

ANIMOTO

I gave Animoto a score of 4 for simplicity because it looks very easy to use. To the side there are three slots. One slot is for music, another for images and videos, and a last is called finalize. These slots look easy to use because they are seperated into different sections. In each section there are different tools that can be used.

I did not give it a five because I have not really used it. The layout of the proram looks very simple. The words used are easy to understand to reduce technical difficulties. It even has little pictures to help. I am exited to start using this program. I am hoping that when I get started I do not have any Technical difficulties.

I gave animoto a 4 for music because it does not let me use my own. animoto has music that is categorizied by genre. You have to use the music provided beccause there is no way for you to insert your own music. I am depressed by this since this may mean that I cannot use the music that I wanted.

It could had been better if there was a way for me to get my own music. on the other hand animoto may have some good background music that will not distract my audience from the content of the video. Since they have experience doing these kind of videos that emphasize the graphics content not the music.

I gave animoto a 5 for graphics. This is because the graphics in the sample video looks very good. I will have to decide what pictures I will choose what pictures will i choose to make appear in my video.
I am still not sure what kind of graphics to add into my video should I add diagrams. That seems like a good idea but I am still not sure.

I am exited about making this video. This project seems so easy but it is actually more than I thought. I think that I will need to work on my graphics. Think about what pictures I will add. I think I will add graphs and diagrams. Overall the graphics in this video were really good and thats why I gave it a 5. I also liked how they changed from one picture to another.

I gave animoto a 3 for words. This is because I don't think a lot of words would look good in this type of video. At first I did not think this was available. But after seeing the sample video I saw that the video contained a few words. I think that is a good idea to add graphs and diagrams.

I will have to think about what word content will go into the video so that it will not have the essence of a power point. I will have to choose my words carefully so that there are just enough. Even if there ara just a few words I will have to make sure that the audience is understanding the Design Cycle.

Day 2

Today I was comparing Animoto and Sliderocket. I plan on making a video to teach 6th graders the Design Cycle. Animoto was sort of like a slide show which would help my presentation because I could put information there. Animoto was more of a slide show with pictures. It does not seem like I could add information to the pictures and I don't really know what kind of pictures I could put that would be related to the Design Cycle. I think I will choose Sliderocket because I could easily post information in it and this could help 6th graders learn.
