Design Brief

10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
I am going to create a short video that will teach the 6th graders exactly what the Design Cycle is.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
The requirements for this assignment is to create a product that will teach the 6th graders what the Design cycle is.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
The limitations for this assignment is that we do not have enough time and that our product must accomplish our goal.
13. How will you "test" your project?
I will test this product by asking the 6th graders questions about the Design Cycle. The results of their tests will determine if they learned what the Design Cycle is. To be succesful I will want the 6th graders to get an average of 80 on a quiz that is 5 questions long.

·      at least two and a half minutes long
·      have the necessary information
·      clear
·      must have good graphics
·      audio that is not distracting
·                            simple

Investigation Reflection

I give myself a 5-6 because I believe that I critically described the problem. The problem of this investigation is to teach the Desing Cycle to 6th graders. I also investigated the problem and the tools. Out of the many choices I had I showed to create a video. I chose to compare the programs slide rocket and animoto. I went on sliderocket and animoto and compared them to each other to determind which program would help me accomplish my goal of teaching the 6th graders the Design Cycle. I compared the two by comparing them against each other in the following categories simplicity, music, graphics, and words. I also give myself a 5-6 because I clearly explained why I gave the scores in music, simplicity, graphics, and words.

SLIDEROCKET

SLIDEROCKET
I gave sliderocket a 4 in simplicity. This is because the tools are very easy to find. They are seperated into different slots. There are many tools to choose from. At first I thought this was going to be like power point. Turns out it is more complex than power point but this may be because slide rocket is more than power point.
I gave it a 4 also because there are so many tools. This is something good because with a lot of tools you can do a lot. The tools are organized. You go in and you choose what you want to do.  You can preview your work. You can also Edit share or export you work. Once you choose one of these sections you go to other categories were you have more tools. If you press edit you can go to your actual presentation and edit it. In here you have more tools. You can add text, videos, pictures, charts shapes and many more tools.
I gave slide rocket a 2 for music. I am not sure yet if i can upload my own music. I would like to add music to give it an edge and not make it boring. If I make it boring they (6th graders) would not be interested in the Design Cycle and they won't learn anything. Although at the same time I do not want the music to be a distraction.

I think I could add audio. I am still not sure what kind of audio. I think this could be helpful. I wonder if I could add my voice inside to the presentation. That would be cool. Maybe I can. I will need to check. This is something that I like about the program slide rocket. This is why I gave slide rocket a 2 for music.

I gave slide rocket a 5 in graphics. This is because the graphics look very good in the tour. I am still not sure if i could up load pictures from the internet. I hope I can upload pictures from the internet. From the internet I could add graphs and diagrams. This will help them understand the Design Cycle better By adding this they can visualize the Design cycle better.

Slide rocket has a a series of pictures. I will need to find the pictures that are accurate to the presentation. Hopefully there are some that will fit. I could add some graphics like diagrams or graphs. This could probably help the 6th graders understand the Design Cycle better.

I gave slide rocket a 5 for words. This is because the words come out clearly. I think it will be easy to add words. The words look very clear. With this program i could add as many information as I want. I could add many words and it will not look weird. I think that having a lot of words that describe what the Design Cycle is will help get my point out better.

ANIMOTO

ANIMOTO

I gave Animoto a score of 4 for simplicity because it looks very easy to use. To the side there are three slots. One slot is for music, another for images and videos, and a last is called finalize. These slots look easy to use because they are seperated into different sections. In each section there are different tools that can be used.

I did not give it a five because I have not really used it. The layout of the proram looks very simple. The words used are easy to understand to reduce technical difficulties. It even has little pictures to help. I am exited to start using this program. I am hoping that when I get started I do not have any Technical difficulties.

I gave animoto a 4 for music because it does not let me use my own. animoto has music that is categorizied by genre. You have to use the music provided beccause there is no way for you to insert your own music. I am depressed by this since this may mean that I cannot use the music that I wanted.

It could had been better if there was a way for me to get my own music. on the other hand animoto may have some good background music that will not distract my audience from the content of the video. Since they have experience doing these kind of videos that emphasize the graphics content not the music.

I gave animoto a 5 for graphics. This is because the graphics in the sample video looks very good. I will have to decide what pictures I will choose what pictures will i choose to make appear in my video.
I am still not sure what kind of graphics to add into my video should I add diagrams. That seems like a good idea but I am still not sure.

I am exited about making this video. This project seems so easy but it is actually more than I thought. I think that I will need to work on my graphics. Think about what pictures I will add. I think I will add graphs and diagrams. Overall the graphics in this video were really good and thats why I gave it a 5. I also liked how they changed from one picture to another.

I gave animoto a 3 for words. This is because I don't think a lot of words would look good in this type of video. At first I did not think this was available. But after seeing the sample video I saw that the video contained a few words. I think that is a good idea to add graphs and diagrams.

I will have to think about what word content will go into the video so that it will not have the essence of a power point. I will have to choose my words carefully so that there are just enough. Even if there ara just a few words I will have to make sure that the audience is understanding the Design Cycle.

Day 2

Today I was comparing Animoto and Sliderocket. I plan on making a video to teach 6th graders the Design Cycle. Animoto was sort of like a slide show which would help my presentation because I could put information there. Animoto was more of a slide show with pictures. It does not seem like I could add information to the pictures and I don't really know what kind of pictures I could put that would be related to the Design Cycle. I think I will choose Sliderocket because I could easily post information in it and this could help 6th graders learn.
